About Galileo Masters

Initiated by AZO Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen, German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology, the Galileo Masters today is the leading network for satellite navigation. The Galileo Masters annually awarded the best services, products, and business ideas using satellite navigation in everyday life, spurring the development of respective market-driven applications. For 16 years, the international innovation competition served as an accelerating instrument for space related entrepreneurs and startups, ‐ providing Europe with novelties. Since 2004, almost 13,000 participants took part with an overall prize pool worth nearly EUR 14 million, and more than 383 winners and 200 international judges assigned with the evaluation of submissions. Additionally, AZO established Europe’s first Galileo Incubation programme, funded by the European Commission (EC).

The Galileo Masters sought to award applications, services and new ideas that use Galileo and EGNOS to respond to pressing challenges facing businesses and society. The most innovative solutions were able to share in more than EUR 1 million worth of cash prizes.

In addition to the cash prizes, the winners of the Galileo Masters were able to take advantage of other business development opportunities, tailored E-GNSS Accelerator business support packages worth EUR 62,000, a crowd funding campaign worth EUR 35,000, and much more.

Special Prizes

In addition to the two general categories, participants also submit their solutions to be eligible for one of six special prizes:

  • Galileo-Copernicus Synergy Challenge;

  • Galileo 5G IoT Challenge;

  • DLR Artificial Intelligence Navigation Challenge;

  • University Challenge;

  • BMVI Special Prize;

  • GNSS Living Lab Prize.

DSLL, together with Lutin Living Lab in Paris, were partners of the Galileo Masters and the main organisers of the Galileo Masters Living Lab Prize for several years.
